This week it was lovely to see English enrichment across the school in a variety of form as and opportunities for students to participate in the UK Book Week parade of their favourite book characters on Friday afternoon. A highlight for me was the Poetry Slam organised by Ms Emily Trevitt held on Tuesday during Senior School Assembly when a number of students from Year 7 – 10 competed for the inaugural trophy. Competition was fierce as the standards were high. The winner from Year 10 was Tee-Gan Ho and she was a very worthy winner. All participants have gained points for their Houses as well as growing in confidence!.
We know that Reading ignites a thirst for knowledge. When students discover the joy of learning through books, they are more likely to become lifelong learners, seeking out information and new experiences independently. Here at the Perse (Singapore) we hold true to their values of developing intellectual curiosity and creating life longer learners. This intrinsic motivation is key to adapting and thriving in a rapidly changing world. We also know that reading books is vital for linguistic development, building vocabulary, syntax, and comprehension by exposing learners to language rarely used in conversation. It is also widely recognised through educational research that reading improves Academic Performance. Students who read regularly tend to perform better across all subjects. Strong reading comprehension is vital for understanding textbooks, assignments, and test questions in subjects from history to science. The critical thinking and vocabulary gains from reading directly support success in every area of the curriculum.
I would ask parents to encourage their children to read in their first language as well as English and to be role models in promoting reading in the home!
Your faithfully,
Lynne Oldfield

This week, students across Primary were introduced to our House system, and we are excited to share this with you as well. The House system is an important part of building community spirit, encouraging positive behaviour, and giving students opportunities to work together across year groups.
All Primary students have been allocated to one of four Houses:
Students will remain in their Houses throughout their time in school. Siblings have been placed in the same House across the school (including Secondary) so that families can share in the same House identity and spirit. Staff who have children in the school are also placed in the same House.
Students can earn House Points throughout the school day. These are awarded to recognise individual positive behaviours and learning attitudes, such as:
Regular recognition of these positive actions reinforces our school values and encourages students to take pride in their learning and behaviour. Each individual’s point contributes to the House’s overall total, allowing every student to play a part in supporting and strengthening their House community.
Each House will also be led by staff House Leaders and Vice House Leaders, who will support and guide students in developing House spirit, encouraging teamwork, and leading House activities and events throughout the year.
We are planning to introduce House T-shirts for students to wear during House events and competitions. At the moment, we are exploring supplier options and designs. Once these have been finalised and it is time to make a purchase, we will share further details with parents.
We look forward to seeing our Houses grow in spirit and pride as students support one another, celebrate achievements, and contribute positively to the wider Perse community.

What a magical week at school! Book Week brought stories to life across the school as students celebrated the joy of reading through creativity and imagination. One highlight was our “Book in a Box” competition, where students recreated scenes from their favourite books in wonderfully inventive ways — the winner will be announced next week!
The week culminated in a fantastic whole-school dress-up day, with students and staff arriving in a dazzling array of literary characters. From classic heroes to magical creatures, the costumes were brilliant and truly captured the spirit of storytelling. Book Week was a wonderful reminder of how books can inspire creativity, curiosity and a lifelong love of reading.
Thursday, 5th March marked the start of ACSIS football matches for our U12 Girls team. Selected girls from the Year 5 to Year 8 group brought pride to the school by winning 6-0 against St Joseph International (SJII). The away game gave our players a fantastic opportunity to gain experience and enjoy the sport in a supportive, multi-match format.
A huge thanks to parents who came down to support their girls and our school. Brilliant job U12 girls and PE Team! We look forward to more celebrations from our developmental football team
A heartfelt thank you to everyone who supported and attended our very first community Iftar dinner on Friday March 6. It was a beautiful celebration made possible by the hard work and generosity of so many: from the singers and presentation creators to all the wonderful mothers who baked such delicious desserts.
Sharing our cultures is meaningful for everyone, but it is especially important for our children. Evenings like this help build understanding, friendship, and community.
A very special thank you to Naila Djidjelli. Without her idea, guidance, and constant support, this beautiful evening would not have been possible. We are also grateful to Le Rida Restaurant for providing a delicious buffet of traditional foods that left everyone happy and satisfied.
We hope to see everyone and more again next year!
