Hello! I’m Ms Chen, and it’s such a joy to be featured in this week’s newsletter.
I’m a Junior School Cover Teacher at The Perse School, and I’ve had the wonderful privilege of getting to know students across different year groups. From teaching Humanities and leading Science experiments to guiding student groups in Entrepreneurship, no two days are ever the same, and I truly enjoy every moment of it! I’m also part of the Perse Founding Team, and while opening and establishing a new school comes with its challenges, it has been an incredibly rewarding journey.
My passion for teaching began when I worked with Third-Culture Kids in Thailand, where I taught Dance and Drama to a group of enthusiastic young learners. A few years later, I taught English as a Second Language at a Japanese primary school here in Singapore. Since then, I’ve continued teaching in both formal and informal settings and have been doing so for over 10 years.
Something students might be surprised to learn about me is that I was actually a Theatre student before going on to complete my Bachelor’s in Intercultural Studies. I’m also a big Disney and musical theatre fan! Before discovering my love for teaching, I dreamed of performing on stage or even voicing a Disney animated character. I still enjoy making music in my free time and play the ukulele, piano, and guitar. I also love painting watercolour cards for friends and family.
If I could travel anywhere, I’d love to swim with whale sharks one day – definitely on my bucket list!
The best piece of advice I’ve received is to always choose joy, and to remember that kindness goes a long way.
What I love most about The Perse School community is the strong sense of support and care we have for one another. It’s such a privilege to work alongside inspiring colleagues as we build a culture grounded in trust, kindness, and resilience. I especially appreciate how intentional we are in nurturing our students’ creativity and potential, and how everyone goes the extra mile to make this community the very best it can be.
Best regards,
Tricia Chen
