Celebrating Chinese New Year Through Language and Culture

This week, our Year 7 students have been celebrating Chinese New Year through a rich programme of language and cultural learning. Students learned to write the Chinese character
福 (good fortune) and proudly displayed their work by decorating classroom windows, symbolising wishes for prosperity and good luck in the year ahead.

Students also explored the traditions and meaning behind Chinese New Year through videos, class discussions and hands-on activities within their form groups. These experiences helped deepen their cultural understanding while building confidence, curiosity and enjoyment in learning Mandarin.
