As you already know, Monday, 25th May, we celebrated the Senior Sports Day at The Perse School Singapore. The event gave students the opportunity to compete in a variety of activities and earn points for their houses through both team and individual events.
Team events included dodgeball, tug of war, hurdling and relays, while individual competitions focused on sprint races and athletics events. Throughout the day, students showed great enthusiasm, energy and determination, always willing to give their best to support their houses and teammates.
The atmosphere during the event was fantastic. Parents contributed to creating a warm, positive and family-oriented environment, while all Senior School teachers played an active role in organising activities, supporting students and cheering them on throughout the competition.
One of the highlights of the day came during the final round, when students and teachers faced each other in relay races and tug of war challenges. These moments were incredibly fun and helped to strengthen the bonds between students and staff, reinforcing the sense of community that makes our school so special.
The day concluded with a closing ceremony where medals were awarded to the teams and students who achieved the best performances in the athletics events, and the winning house of the competition was officially announced.
We would like to make a special mention of the outstanding effort and attitude shown by both students and teachers throughout the day. Everyone pushed themselves to do their very best, once again demonstrating the values that define The Perse School Singapore. In particular, the event reflected the core value of endeavour; encouraging students to persevere, embrace challenges and always strive for excellence with determination and positivity.
The Senior Sports Day was not only a celebration of sport, but also a celebration of teamwork, resilience and community spirit. Congratulations to all participants and especially to this year’s winning house!
Best Regards,

Last week, the Year 10 IGCSE Business students welcomed Ms. Yinyin for an insightful session on procurement and strategic sourcing. Students explored the end-to-end process of purchasing goods and services, from identifying organisational needs and negotiating prices to creating purchase orders and managing supplier relationships.
Ms. Yinyin highlighted the importance of balancing cost, quality, delivery, and risk management when selecting suppliers. She also explained the difference between simple buying decisions and strategic sourcing, showing how businesses use data analysis, long-term planning, and supplier evaluation to improve efficiency and reduce risk.
Using real-world examples, including supplier challenges in the Philippines, students examined issues such as lead times, regulations, geopolitical factors, and currency fluctuations. They also discussed opportunities for businesses to diversify suppliers, improve sustainability, and build resilience in global supply chains.
The session ended with a practical school-based case study, giving students the chance to apply procurement strategies to a real organisational scenario. It was a valuable opportunity for students to see how procurement plays a vital role in modern business operations.
This week, our Business Taster Tuesdays programme welcomed Ms. Smita Sonthalia, founder of Samarpan Art School, who shared her inspiring journey as both an artist and entrepreneur.
Originally established in the UK in 2018, Samarpan Art School has grown into an internationally recognised organisation offering structured fine art education to students in the UK, Singapore, and online worldwide. Ms. Sonthalia spoke about how she transformed her passion for art into a successful business, highlighting the importance of identifying opportunities, building a clear vision, and maintaining high standards of quality and innovation.
Students gained valuable insights into entrepreneurship, including branding, growth strategies, pricing, and the challenges of balancing business leadership with family life. They were particularly inspired by Ms. Sonthalia’s commitment to combining creativity with academic excellence, helping thousands of learners develop their artistic talents through globally recognised programmes.
We thank Ms. Sonthalia for sharing her experiences and demonstrating how passion, perseverance, and creativity can be transformed into a thriving enterprise. Her presentation provided students with a fascinating real-world example of entrepreneurship in action.
Students from The Perse School Singapore achieved outstanding success at the World Scholar’s Cup Singapore Regional Round, held at Nexus International School Singapore on 9–10 May 2026. Competing across a range of challenging academic events including Debate, Collaborative Writing, Scholar’s Bowl and individual subject challenges, all participating Perse teams qualified for the Global Round.
Our students earned an impressive collection of Gold and Silver medals, with several standout performances. Supreeta (Y8) was selected for the prestigious Debate Showcase Panel and achieved Gold medals in Debate, Collaborative Writing and Scholar’s Bowl. Ashton (Y7) and Caspar (Y7) secured Golds in both Team and Individual Debate, while Michaela (Y8) earned Gold in Collaborative Writing. Strong performances also came from Omar (Y8), Alexa (Y7) and Zain (Y7) in Scholar’s Bowl, alongside many other medal-winning scholars across the competition.
The event also recognised the commitment of staff supporting the programme. Mr Martyn O’Brien received Distinguished Service recognition as Team Coordinator, while Ms Melanie Mehdi was commended for Debate Adjudication and Team Support.
Following their success in Singapore, students are now preparing for the World Scholar’s Cup Global Round in Bangkok this August, where they will compete against top-performing schools from across the region. Congratulations to all students and staff involved on an exceptional achievement.
Our Year 7 student, Gordon Yan Xuan, recently participated in the Hwa Chong Info-communications Challenge (HCIC) 2026.
The HCIC encourages young learners to develop their interest and confidence in info-communications, programming, coding and robotics. It also provides students with the opportunity to strengthen important skills such as computational thinking, analytical reasoning and problem-solving.
The HCIC requires students to apply programming logic, Python knowledge and robotics concepts while managing their time carefully.
It was a valuable opportunity for Gordon to challenge himself beyond the classroom and apply his learning in a technology-focused setting.
Gordon completed the 1-hour challenge, which included multiple-choice questions as well as open-ended and programming questions using Python.
Well done to Gordon YAN XUAN for his effort, focus and enthusiasm in taking part in HCIC 2026.
