Warm regards,
Head of Primary School
This term, our students embarked on a week-long Reading Marathon, diving into books of their choice and rediscovering the simple joy of reading for pleasure. The aim was simple: to foster a genuine love of reading.
Every student who submitted a summary sheet of the books they read was recognised as a winner, celebrating the personal achievement of finishing a book and reflecting on it, no matter how many pages it took. Congratulations go to Class 2CEB, Class 3D, and Class 6D, who read the most books as a class and were awarded top honours for their collective enthusiasm.
A wonderful reminder that a love of reading, once sparked, can carry a class (and a school) a very long way.
Happy Reading!

Year 3 Went to the Zoo!
Here is a recap from our Yr 3B Stella
The zoo trip was so fun! We went to the Mandarin Resort at River Wonders and Singapore Zoo. We went on Night Safari, which is what I thought was the best!
We had a show full of nocturnal animals! All the groups had names: Team Ollie, Team Corolla, and Team Jia Jia. Ollie is a capybara, Corolla is a manatee, and Jia Jia is a panda. We all slept near a big tank, a huge tank! In front of manatees and fish! It was like a dream! We went on a boat ride that splashed everywhere! It was so fun I nearly couldn’t breathe. We also went on a bus/train at Night Safari. We saw all types of animals. My favourite was a lion.

We left for the trip at around 11 a.m. on Tuesday 9th June 2026
There were three teams named Team Ollie, Team Jia Jia and Team Canola. We were in River Wonders when at the zoo. Canola was a manatee, Ollie was a beaver and Jia Jia was a panda. After we knew all that, we set off to see a show. We also saw many other water creatures along the way like piranhas, zebra fish, manatees etc. After the show, we walked a lot. After lunch, we set off to do the boat ride, but unfortunately it was raining so we couldn’t do the boat ride. But luckily it stopped in about half an hour. After the boat ride, we had dinner.
Raghav, Year 3
This week, our Year 2 children became little entrepreneurs as they hosted their very own Farmers’ Market! Every product on sale was lovingly handmade by the children, with an impressive range on offer from crafts and games to refreshing fruit juices.
As market stall owners, the children demonstrated creativity, teamwork and problem-solving skills as they designed and set up their stalls. They developed their communication and persuasive language skills by advertising their products and interacting with customers. Applying their mathematical understanding, they decided on prices and even introduced promotions and discounts in response to demand!
The excitement spread throughout the school as children from across the Pelicans classes visited the market to explore the fantastic stalls. Our younger customers also enjoyed the experience and were able to make decisions, handle money, compare prices and engage confidently with others.
A huge thank you to all the parents who supported the event through your generous donations. Each Year 2 class selected a charity that was meaningful to them:
We are delighted to share that together we raised over $2,400 for these wonderful causes. We are incredibly proud of the children for demonstrating such compassion, enterprise and community spirit while making a real difference to others.
Best Regards

Punctuation
This week, the children explored the exciting world of punctuation through The Punctuation Friends! Through stories, discussions, and interactive activities, they learned how punctuation marks help make our writing clear and meaningful.
The children practised identifying and using punctuation marks such as full stops, question marks, and exclamation marks while reading and discussing a comic story. They also worked on checking that a text made sense as they read and demonstrated their understanding by retelling stories, recalling key events, and answering questions about characters and plot.
In writing, the children practised forming letters correctly, copying words and simple sentences, and creating their own comic strips using punctuation marks. They were encouraged to express their ideas through simple sentences while applying their growing knowledge of writing conventions and phonetic spelling.
It was wonderful to see the children becoming more confident readers and writers as they explored how punctuation helps bring stories to life!
The children explored counting collections, where they were given groups of objects to count, organise, and compare. As they counted, they practiced one-to-one correspondence, checked their totals, and discussed different strategies for keeping track of their counting. Some children grouped items into smaller sets to make counting easier, while others arranged them into lines or patterns.
A key focus of was helping children to record their thinking in different ways. They were encouraged to represent their collections using a variety of methods such as number sentences (equations), number bonds, drawn dots, lines, tally marks, or grouped pictures. This helped them understand that numbers can be shown in many different ways, not just written numerals.
They explored doubles through practical activities using concrete materials and a story. They children explored how two equal groups make a double. They practised finding doubles such as 1 + 1, 2 + 2, 3 + 3, 4 + 4, and 5 + 5, and began noticing patterns in the totals. By building and comparing equal groups, the children developed a deeper understanding that doubles are made up of the same amount on both sides.
Young Entrepreneurs in Action!
Year 1 CEB and Year 2 CEB joined forces to make this year’s Farmers’ Market a tremendous success. The children worked collaboratively to prepare, organise, and run their stall, showcasing impressive teamwork and enthusiasm throughout the event.
On the day, the children eagerly manned the stalls, prepared fresh cupcake sandwiches with whipped cream and blueberries on the spot, and sold refreshing lemonade to customers. It was wonderful to witness their growing confidence as they greeted parents and peers, promoted their products, and handled transactions with enthusiasm. They also demonstrated excellent problem-solving skills and adaptability as they responded to challenges, including managing supplies during busy periods.
Beyond running their own stall, the children had the opportunity to explore the market as customers. They visited other stalls, exchanged money for tokens, made purchasing decisions, and experienced the excitement of buying and selling in a real-world context. This provided valuable hands-on learning in financial literacy, communication, and decision-making.
Our stall looked fantastic thanks to the creativity, effort, and dedication the children invested in the preparation process. We are incredibly proud of the teamwork, entrepreneurial spirit, and resilience they displayed throughout the day.
A heartfelt thank you to our families and school community for your support. The Farmers’ Market was a busy, fun, and rewarding experience for all involved, and a wonderful celebration of learning in action.
