A MESSAGE FROM OUR HEAD OF PRIMARY Junior School (Yr 3 – 6) & Pelicans (Nursery – Yr 2)

This time of the year in any school can seem quite hectic! We are busy with the day-to-day business (reports, performance, field trips) alongside ensuring we continue to deliver quality teaching and learning, whilst keeping children’s wellbeing central to all that we do. The photographs depict Y6 students leaving for their trip and the Singapore Police Force conducting an assembly for Primary School, demonstrating broad and balanced experiences for students.

It is important, however, whilst celebrating success, to reflect on the past year to guarantee we make the necessary adjustments to plan for future achievements. Looking back, I appreciate the input and feedback that parents have shared to help us better understand what matters to you most, whether it’s with regard to specific policies or the weather on Sports Day, it’s vital that we continue to communicate clearly to forward plan for fulfilling and enriching learning pathways for the children.

Speaking of the children …. I continue to be surprised, impressed, dazzled, and amazed by all of the children. It is such a daily pleasure to be surrounded by young minds that are so eager to learn, keen to engage and excited by their own capabilities. When you receive your child’s report next week, please keep in mind that they are each on their own learning journey. Children will make mistakes and face challenges as they grow, so as you review your child’s report, remember that learning is a journey. Children will make mistakes as they grow, so please celebrate their achievements, acknowledge their progress, and encourage them to keep learning.

Thank you for celebrating and reflecting with us throughout the year.

Warm regards,

Kephren Sherry

Primary School Sports Days – 19 & 20 May

Two days, plenty of sunshine, and a whole lot of heart. Our primary school students took to the track and field in fine form across Sports Days on 19 and 20 May, giving their all despite the warm conditions and cheering each other on every step of the way.

We couldn’t be prouder of how they carried themselves — with effort, spirit, and real camaraderie.

A heartfelt thank you to the many parents who came out to support. Seeing the field filled with familiar faces made a genuine difference to the day, and moments like these are exactly what build the kind of community we are proud to be part of.

Well done, Primary School — and thank you to everyone who was there with them.

Here are some Junior school sports day reflections from our house captains.

Garuda House Captain Reflections

Garuda performed really well on sports day! Everyone gave their best effort, showed great enthusiasm and supported one another throughout all of the events. I’m very proud of the house spirit that was shown in so many different ways throughout the day. I heard students cheering on their teammates and shouting words of encouragement as they competed, which was really lovely to see and hear. Whilst leading the warm up to YMCA while dressed up as the mascot, it was so much fun seeing everyone dancing and getting excited for the day ahead. Garuda showed great teamwork, resilience and sportsmanship throughout the entire day. It was great to see students supporting each other, giving things a go and celebrating everyone’s efforts!  I’m so proud of the way everyone represented Garuda. The energy, encouragement and positivity from everyone made the day so enjoyable. Thank you all for your effort and house spirit, you should all be very proud!

The kids were amazing. I was really happy seeing them laugh and smile with their houses knowing that their parents were watching. They tried their best to complete the event even when the number of participants were more than the other teams. That meant they were going to be the last to complete the relay. They kept going anyways. During the Pelicans Sports Day, they struck up a lot of courage to compete in front of the watchful eyes of their parents. Also having to see the parents with their posters cheering on their kids was very heart-warming. I then saw the parents running for their kids houses which caused so much mayhem from the kids as they were excited to see their parents go! go! go! Bravery, determination, and perseverance. They never gave up. There are no greater group of students that emulate the Garuda spirit more than all of you. It brings me so much joy and pride to bleed green for Garuda. This shout-out goes especially to my Captain Charity, Vice-captain Arabella and the two student counsellors Tatsuya and Ollie that bled green with me. Ms Annie MacGeachin and I are so proud of you for stepping up! Fly high Garudas!

SINGA Reflections

Singa took a huge amount of pride into Junior Sports Day. Our aim was to show house spirit, compete hard and have a great time. We succeeded. Both Mr Brooks and Miss Graves are massively proud of the children across all year levels. We suffered plenty of tough losses across the day in the tug of war and archery, but the one thing we never lost… SINGA SPIRIT.  The one that stands out to us as house leaders is endeavour. It’s tough to turn up to every event on a hot day with a big smile on your face. We pushed through and fought hard. Hear us roar loud and proud!! Miss Graves and I are extremely proud of all of your efforts win, loss or draw.

NAGA reflections

Naga House performed exceptionally well today. They gave every event their absolute best, and I was incredibly proud of the determination, perseverance and positive attitude they showed throughout the entire morning. The relay races was the final event of the day and everyone was exhausted, yet NAGA refused to give up and gave it their absolute all. They continued to encourage and cheer one another on right until the very end. Naga showed camaraderie – not only for their House, but towards others as well. During the tug-of-war, Naga cheered on the other Houses with just as much pride, enthusiasm and encouragement as they would have shown for their own team. Keep showing up, keep persevering and, above all, continue demonstrating the outstanding camaraderie, determination and sportsmanship that made today such a success!

Quotes from Naga students:

Leo 3A: “I think Naga performed well and we were encouraging each other”

Rubén 3A “I like how we did the tug of war and we used team work”

Honoré 3A “I like how we encouraged each other”

Ava 3A “I think we tried our best for the whole sports day”

An 3A “I think we did the best in tug of war. I don’t know if we won, but I know we tried our best”

Naga performed incredibly well! I could see that every single person gave it their best and that was recognised amongst their peers as well. No one was made to feel like it wasn’t enough and that made the event enjoyable. As well as hyping each other up, I noticed that during the egg race we also started to cheer and support the houses finishing after we had completed it! This really demonstrated to me that we went beyond house spirit and really began to be more of a community. They showed how they could rally amongst their year group and support one another even if they weren’t winning, encouraging and cheering on others when it wouldn’t benefit them. Keep showing up everyday with that same energy! That determination, that craving for life, that encouragement for our community. Don’t let Sports Day be the only day you decide to back each other; do it everyday!

Harimou Reflections

We were definitely feeling the pressure after Monday’s result doing house cheers, but Harimau came in today with incredible spirit. I’m most proud of how that energy carried through the entire day. It was especially evident during the tug of war — Harimau showed real unity, supporting one another and cheering each other on every step of the way. One standout moment was seeing so many parents step forward to take part in the races representing Harimau. The way our students rallied behind them and cheered them on created such a strong sense of community and pride. What really stood out was the sportsmanship shown by our students. They weren’t just cheering for Harimau — they were supporting everyone. That kind of respect and positivity truly goes beyond competition. You have made your house incredibly proud. Your determination and team spirit were clear for everyone to see — the other houses definitely saw your claws out and heard your roar on the pitch!

PELICANS

ALEXANDRA SOUTHWELL

Pelicans Co-ordinator (Nursery to Yr 2)

Sports Day was a wonderful celebration of teamwork, resilience and school spirit, and we could not be prouder of every year group who took part. From the youngest children to the oldest, pupils approached each event with enthusiasm, determination and positivity, showing excellent sportsmanship throughout the day. It was fantastic to see children encouraging one another, celebrating successes together and showing courage when faced with new challenges.

While there were many impressive performances and exciting races, what stood out most was the attitude shown by all of the children. Just like Tao Tortoise, they demonstrated perseverance, kindness and a willingness to keep trying, even when the temperatures creeped up! These qualities are far more important than winning and reflect the values we strive to develop across the school community.

A huge well done to all pupils for representing their houses and classes so brilliantly and thank you to staff and families for helping to make the day such a success.

Best Regards

Nursery

The Nursery students had a fantastic Sports Week! We were so excited to earn points for our respective houses and showed great teamwork and enthusiasm throughout the activities. The children participated in fun relay races, challenged themselves, and worked super hard to support one another. Bertie the Bee is so proud of all our amazing effort, teamwork, and sportsmanship!

Party Planning in Action – Making Kaya Toast!

This week, the children took part in a hands-on food preparation activity as part of our ongoing inquiry into party planning. Over the past few days, the children have been discussing what kinds of food and drinks they might like to prepare and serve at a party. During our brainstorming sessions, many exciting ideas were shared, including sandwiches, milkshakes, cakes, and other party treats!

To bring these ideas to life, the children worked together to make their very own kaya toast (local breakfast go to). We chose this activity as it is a simple and familiar recipe that allowed the children to participate more independently while practising important life skills such as spreading, assembling, following instructions, and making choices.

As they prepared their toast, the children explored different ingredients and talked about the role food plays during celebrations and gatherings. The activity also encouraged cooperation, turn-taking, communication, and confidence in trying new foods. Many children were excited to taste the toast they had prepared themselves, while others proudly packed extras to share with their families at home.

The ingredients used were:
• Crustless white bread
• Kaya spread (typically made with coconut milk, eggs, sugar, and pandan leaves)
• Butter

Through meaningful and enjoyable experiences like these, the children continue to deepen their understanding of planning and preparing for a party while building independence and practical everyday skills.

Year 2

We were incredibly proud of the children during Sports Day. Throughout every race and activity, they showed fantastic effort, determination and perseverance, encouraging one another and never giving up, just like Tao Tortoise! It was wonderful to see the children challenging themselves, celebrating each other’s successes and demonstrating such positive teamwork and resilience. Well done, everyone!

Year 1 & 2 Bilingual

This week, the Year 1 CEB children enjoyed a wonderful English lesson that combined creativity, play, and writing. After an exciting and energetic week filled with House Fun Day and Sports Day activities, the children were ready for a calmer and more relaxed learning experience.

Using building blocks, the children were challenged to create something of their choice and then write a sentence or two describing their creation. From Beyblades and shields to imaginative vehicles, the classroom was buzzing with creativity and excitement.

The children were incredibly proud of what they built and eager to share their ideas with their classmates and teachers. It was wonderful to see how play inspired their writing and encouraged them to express their thoughts with confidence, imagination, and enthusiasm.

Grade 2 Math Highlight:

Students explored basic statistics through the process of conducting surveys, collecting data, organizing information, and drawing conclusions. Chinese teaching strategies were integrated into the lesson, encouraging students to ask questions, share ideas, and discuss their findings in Chinese. Through meaningful interactions and hands-on activities, students developed both their mathematical understanding and Chinese language skills. They were able to interpret data, identify patterns, and confidently share their conclusions.
