Dear Parents,
As we head towards the break and the end of another vibrant term, I reflect on everything that the students have achieved and celebrate the success of each child.
The term has been busy and filled with various learning experiences, both inside and outside the classroom. The children never cease to amaze me with their attitude and approach, embracing each new challenge with confidence and a willingness to take on new obstacles. They have taken part in performances, sporting events, represented the school in competitions and launched themselves fully into enriching activities. The assemblies, collaborative and special events have showcased the children’s abilities and their understanding of our values-driven education. It has been so wonderful to witness their growth and maturity as they progress through school.
The passion and commitment of our staff and parents to support the success and wellbeing of our students is inspiring, and I sincerely thank you all for being such a central part of the Primary School community.
I wish you all have a restful break and hope that the children take the rest and relaxation that they truly deserve.
Warm regards,

On the final week of Term 2, classes and year groups were asked to reflect on their learning and experiences. We have not been able to capture every individual view, but some clear themes have emerged.
Across the year groups, pupils spoke a lot about teamwork and supporting one another, both in lessons and during break and lunchtime. There is a growing sense of inclusion and shared responsibility. Many also highlighted how much they value hands on learning, whether that is in science, on trips or through practical activities, as it helps them understand things more clearly and stay engaged. Pupils also showed a strong sense of pride in their achievements, from house points and special events to leadership roles and sporting achievements.
From my perspective, it is particularly encouraging to see how honest pupils are being about their learning. Many can identify what they need to improve, such as listening skills, working in groups and becoming more independent. There is also a noticeable increase in resilience, especially when work feels challenging, such as in extended writing.
These are the questions that we asked each class. Please use them to reflect at home, if you so wish.
A big thank you to our Year 6 researcher, Ila, who gathered reflections from across Years 3 to 6 and helped bring these ideas together.
Well done to all of our students and staff for their effort and achievements this term. Term 3 has a lot to live up to!
Best regards
Ms Melanie Medhi
During term 2, Year 3 focused on teamwork, encouraging one another and making a real effort to include everyone during break and lunchtime. They are especially proud of their hands on science work in the lab and have enjoyed earning house points and taking part in dress up days. Next term, they aim to continue trying their best and improve their listening skills.
During term 2, Year 4 have shown great appreciation for their teachers and have made strong progress in teamwork and understanding one another this term. Their calm and orderly movement around the school has been noticed and praised by many staff. For year 4 students, highlights include science week and their trip to the chocolate factory using public transport. They are looking forward to more class discussions and deeper coding work with Scratch next term.
During term 2, Year 5 have been developing independence and taking more responsibility for their learning. They have reflected honestly on their group work and are working to improve it. Increased effort in extended writing and better time management were clear strengths this term. Next term, they are excited about new creative projects, further developing their independent research skills and preparing themselves for Year 6.
During term 2, Year 6 have found that field trips and hands on learning have had the greatest impact on their understanding. While English writing has been challenging, they are working hard to improve structure and accuracy. They are proud of their sporting achievements and leadership roles, including student councillors, presentation ambassadors and house captains. As they approach their final term in the junior school, they are looking forward to supporting one another and making the most of their time together.
As we reach the end of Term 2, it is always a pleasure to reflect on the many things we have achieved together. Some of our Pelicans have now completed their first full term, and it has been wonderful to see how quickly they have settled into school life.
We began the term with a vibrant whole-school lion dance to celebrate Chinese New Year. It was fantastic to come together and see just how much our school community has grown. This was followed by an engaging Science Week, where the children demonstrated curiosity, exploration, and enthusiasm in their learning.
Next, we enjoyed a lovely Book Week, during which a love of reading could be seen across every classroom. The term concluded with a spectacular Easter egg hunt, where children showed excellent collaboration as they worked together to solve clues and discover their prizes.
What a wonderful Term 2 it has been! I wish you all a restful break and look forward to everyone returning refreshed and ready to thrive in Term 3.
Best Regards

The Nursery team explored the letter “K” this week! We created our own kites using cut-up strings, stickers, and sequins—they looked so beautiful. Later in the day, we took them outside for a spin, and it was so much fun!
Our Easter egg scavenger hunt brought excitement and joy as children searched high and low for hidden eggs. It was a wonderful way to celebrate the season together.
Wonderful water – Evaporation and condensation
The children were introduced to the concept of evaporation through the non-fiction book Where Did the Water Go? They learned that when water “disappears,” it does not vanish. Instead, it dries up and turns into water vapour, going back into the air. To make this concept meaningful, the children took part in several hands-on investigations
We used buckets of water to “paint” on the ground outdoors. When we returned later, they observed that their paintings had disappeared! This led to discussions about how the water had evaporated into the air.
Each child decorated a small ziplock bag and filled it halfway with water. After a few days, we observed tiny water droplets forming inside the bag. The children learned that this is called condensation, which happens when water vapour cools and turns back into liquid. Throughout the lesson, the children reflected on their observations and shared their ideas, showing curiosity and growing understanding, just like Osuka Owl and Clara Cat!
This week in English, the children listened to a story about a boy who enjoys folding things called More-igami. During the first listening, they focused on understanding the story. On the second listening, the children wrote down words they were curious about and wanted to know the meaning of. We then discussed these words together as a class to build their vocabulary and comprehension. Afterwards, the children worked in pairs to read and follow instructions. Using the materials provided, they carefully folded either a ladybird or a fish, applying their understanding of instructional texts.
In Mathematics, we began our new topic on measuring mass and capacity. The children explored the use of weighing scales to compare and measure the mass of different classroom objects using non-standard units. They enjoyed investigating which items were heavier or lighter. We also explored capacity through observation and simple investigations, helping the children understand how much a container can hold.
For Science, the children continued learning about our Nature Expedition. As part of the preparation, the children created invitations to invite other classes to join us for a picnic, encouraging collaboration and excitement for our upcoming expedition. The children then had the opportunity to go on their nature expedition and enjoy a picnic at Chestnut Close Nature Park. During the trip, they observed their surroundings, appreciated nature, and practiced being responsible explorers.
To celebrate Easter, the children also took part in a fun Easter Egg Hunt. Eggs and clues were hidden around different locations in the school. The children worked in teams to solve the clues and move from one location to another to find the next egg. They explored the school while searching for hidden surprises. It was a joyful and exciting way to celebrate together.
It has been a wonderful week of listening, exploring, and learning together!
Science Update – Light and Shadows
This week, we explored light and shadows, learning that shadows are formed when light is blocked by an object. The children investigated this concept in a darkened classroom using torches, a lamp (with the shade removed), and a white sheet. They experimented with how shadows change depending on the position of the light and the object.
We then took our learning outdoors to observe how the sun creates shadows. Using chalk, the children traced and drew shadow outlines and noted the time of day (around 2 o’clock in the afternoon). This led to great discussions about how shadows change throughout the day, and we connected this to the Earth’s movement, helping the children understand why shadows shift and change in length and direction.
Highlight – Year 1CEB
Math:
3D Shapes! This week, we dove into the world of 3D shapes! We learned the names of different solid shapes and explored their special features—like faces and edges. To make these concepts stick, we got hands-on and built our own 3D shapes!
Science :
This week in Science, we explored the structure of the Earth! The children learned that our planet is made up of different layers, and discovered that soil, rocks, and oceans are all part of it.
We also took our learning outdoors for a closer look. The children investigated plants in our school grounds and observed which plants have roots that grow deeper into the Earth’s layers. It was wonderful to see their curiosity and enthusiasm in action!
Well done, Year 1CEB!
Highlight – Year 2CEB
Maths:
This week in Maths, we explored the concept of angles! The children learned that an angle is formed where two lines meet.
To bring this to life, we used the hands of a clock to observe how they move. Watching the hour and minute hands, we explored turns of half a circle, a full circle, and right angles.
Science:
Title: Light & Shadows Today we took our science learning outside! The kids explored how the Sun’s position affects shadows, discovering that as the Sun moves across the sky, shadows change direction and length. This helps to recognise the Sun as a source of light, understand how shadows change when the light source moves.
